Tokyo Highlights is our most popular follow on from your stay in Kyoto. Tokyo (東京, Tōkyō) is Japan's capital and the world's most populous metropolis. Today, Tokyo offers a seemingly unlimited choice of shopping, entertainment, culture and dining to its visitors. The city's history can be appreciated in districts such as Asakusa, and in many excellent museums, historic temples and gardens and despite popular belief has many fabulous green spaces.

Travelling late afternoon from Kyoto to Tokyo on the world renowned Shinkansen, you arrive in Tokyo a little over two and a half hours later.

You will receive detailed instructions on your journey from Kyoto to Tokyo with maps of stations, train number, times etc.

Accommodation

Our chosen accommodation is located just a 2-minute walk to Tokyo Dome and Tokyo Dome City Attractions. JR Suidobashi Station and Subway Station are located within a 10-minute walk.

Each room will provide you with a flat-screen TV and air conditioning. Other in-room facilities include a fridge and an electric kettle. The private bathroom comes with a bath tub, a hairdryer and free toiletries.

Our hotel provides a 24-hour front desk and luggage storage services. In-room massages can be arranged at a surcharge. Laundry facilities are also available and free Wi-Fi is available in all areas.

The hotel is a 10-minute train ride from Tokyo Station, which offers Shinkansen (bullet train) access to other cities. Narita Airport is approx. 1 hour from Tokyo station.

Food

A buffet breakfast is included in your tour. All hotels are chosen to be within walking distance of a supermarket, so if you don't fancy venturing out to eat you will find everything you need here

Excursions

You can choose between two half day (4 hour) excursions or one full day (6 hour)

Two Half Day Excursions

This is our most popular option.

Our guide is Izumi. She is a government certified official tour guide who has shown foreign visitors around Tokyo and its vicinity areas to for over 3 years. Every time she meets her guests, Izumi gives them as much knowledge, hospitality, and humour as she can.

Alternatively take or full Day Excursion (6 hours)

Our guide is Sachiko. She is a licensed tour guide living in Sayama city near Tokyo and would love to show you around Tokyo and its vicinity. From the tourist hot spots to the unique local sites - let her share stories with you that will enhance your understanding of Japanese culture.

9:00am at your hotel,

  • Imperial Palace
  • Meiji Jingu Shinto Shrine (Imperial shrine)
  • Harajuku ("kawaii" fashion)

Lunch is not included in the tour; your guide can help you find a restaurant according to your taste.

    • Asakusa Sensoji Buddhist Temple (oldest temple in Tokyo)
    • Akamise Shopping Arcade
    • Ginza (prestigious shopping district).

The tour ends at 5:00 PM when your guide will suggest a restaurant and give you instructions on returning to your hotel.

If you prefer a custom made tour, please choose four or five sites listed below. We can design an itinerary for you. This can still be fully or self-guided. The following places are also recommended;

We also include a large number of ideas on where to visit including museums, river cruises and shopping and ideas from the list above. The bespoke booklet includes train/subway maps etc. from your hotelto major attractions. Or add an extended rail pass and travel further afield!

Detailed map, times etc. are given for your journey to Narita Airport.
